THE GREAT CADENCE COMPETITION
Drum Corps International and The Drumline Network are looking for the next great cadence to include in the first-ever, Official DCI Cadence Book! Show off your best composition skills to the world, and win an opportunity to have your cadence premiered at DCI World Championship Finals in 2023 while you also watch the entire event from box seats at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis! The cadence competition is open to everyone, and any style!
the basics
• Contest is open to the public & worldwide writers.
• Free to enter
• No age-restrictions (Writers under 18 years of age MUST complete and parent permission form)
• Instruments used must be standard marching percussion instruments. Minimum must consist of snare & bass drum.
• Optional writing for multi-tenors, single tenors, cymbals, flub, and marching bells/xylophone

•Composition will be PREMIERED during World Championships event via Jumbotron

CONTEST RULES
•ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE MADE USING ANY OF THE FOLLOWING SOFTWARE (SIBELIUS, FINALE, DORICO, MUSESCORE)

•ALL COMPOSITIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY **UPDATED DEADLINE COMING SOON**
​
•Compositions are limited to a Single and/or Pair of writers. Both writers must be clearly credited & noted on the composition.
​
•Compositions may be in ANY style or marching percussion and utilize common add-on accessories such as cowbells, jam blocks, cymbals, etc.
​
•Compositions may be written for ANY skill level ranging from Beginner to Advanced.
​
•Compositions may be at ANY tempo, but still within reason of realistic playability.
​
•Instruments used must be standard marching percussion instruments (minimum of snare & bass drum).
​
•Additional instruments may include (but are not required) multi-tenors, single-tenors, flubs, tonal bass drums, cymbals
​
•Compositions that meet performance standards for realistic playback will be digitally sequenced, and promoted via online platforms for the duration of the competition and beyond.
​
•Top 3 Compositions will be selected for inclusion in the Official Drum Corps International Cadence Book
​
•Team writers may submit a cadence, with a MAXIMUM of (three) team members.
​
•Prizes will be defined in the Winning Guidelines & Judges Section.
​
•Winners will not be eligible for royalties beyond the initial prizes that are distributed for their participation.
​
•Winning compositions will become the shared property of Drum Corps International & The Drumline Network, LLC., with writers' credits being acknowledged upon publication in all current and future editions.
​
•Winners acknowledge that compositions may be distributed both in the United States in addition to International regions at the discretion of Drum Corps International & The Drumline Network, LLC.
​
•Winning compositions may NOT be resold, redistributed, or published with any other entity without the expressed written consent and clearance of Drum Corps International & The Drumline Network, LLC.
